Windows uses software called a driver to communicate with the hardware or devices that your system uses. Simply put, the driver translates the message so that the operating system will understand how to handle what it’s receiving.

Hi, I made a Windows partition on my mac and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Eventually I installed all of the drivers, incliuding Bootcamp which I upgraded to Bootcamp 3.1) It says that Realtek HD Driver is installed, and when I click on the speaker in the taskbar all of my volumes are on and on full, and the little green bar bounces up and down with sound indicating music is being played. Yet nothing comes out of the speakers. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, Running as administrator, Troubleshooting Configuration, installing different drivers etc etc etc.
Numerous times (usually with a microsoft product simply unplugging or uninstalling and re installing works cos they're so un reliable. AppleCare directed me to a site where I downloaded the lastest VistaWindows7 64 bit Realtek drivers, and they installed correctly however I had the same problem. Microsoft won't help me because it is installed on a Macintosh computer. All they suggest is I download Driver Cure at a cost of $30 (ontop of the hundreds I spent on their stupid software) I've searched the internet for days and a lot of people have had the same problem, and I've seen a few people say they were able to fix it however I have tried what they said they did and nothing works.
The hole for the headphone jack is lit RED, when I am in Windows, but not in Mac. In Mac OSX sound works fine.
I don't even get sound with my headphones. Please ANYONE that can help at all it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Phil I'l try that. Are you using Windows 7? 32 or 64 bit? Like I said it seems with anything made by Microsoft everything has to be unplugged and replugged or uninstalled and reinstalled a thousand times untill eventually it decides it will work. For instance plugging my USB modem into my MBP, the drivers wouldn't all install I had to uninstall them and reinstall a thousand times and try different USB ports untill about 45 goes later it just worked all of a sudden. It's so frustrating.
And the fact that Microsoft won't help me because it's on a Mac really pissed me off. What does it matter to them if it's Mac or HP or Sony etc.
It's their Software and their drivers and I paid for 1 years support. Running 64bit, and the Red cross was what I was getting in the bottom right tray, will have a better look next time I am in boot camp mode, but as I said the fix is in the Windows control panel Hardware and Sound Manage Audio devices SOUND Tab and the best way to work it out is to have a song going so when you do switch it to the correct setting it will probably blast you away if you have forgotten to turn the sound down The only reason I have Windows is for gaming, that's it, so not a big user and was flying blind when I managed to work it out and fix the problem. I tried what you suggested for about an hour Phil with no luck. I eventually bit the bullet and downloaded Driver Cure (the Microsoft tech suggested it) and a scan says I have 22 drivers needing updating so I'm currently in the process of downloading and isntalling all of them. Hopefully this is the fix.
P.s Quick note to anyone thinking of using BootCamp, it's no where near as simple as suggested. Making the partition and installing windows is simple, but getting it to work properly is typical for Microsoft product. Sorry I couldn't help more, as I said when it comes to windows, I have forgotten where stuff is, I guess I got lucky guessing the problem, been using macs for as long as I can remember, as I said when I go back into bootcamp will have a better look at what i did to fix the problem, am sure it is something along the lines of what I said, (am probably not explaining it correctly) Have had 3 successful installs of Windows on mine and friends Macs before, am more of a put in front of it and I'll work it out person. Looks like I had better luck than you have had. Hopefully you can work it out.
Couldn't get the audio out. So I bought vm ware fusion 3.' It seems to work great but no matter how much memory or CPU cores I allocate to windows the games I tried on it run TERRIBLY. Lagging, shocking frame rate, skips really bad etc. Its the only reason I wanted windows too.

So throwing vm and troubleshooting bootcamp may be my only option. Wasted so much money already I should have just bought the games on my ps3 p.s for the money I've spent on windows.
Vm fusion and driver scanners etc I probably could have built a decent gaming pc.
